Jim Tilley earned a B.Sc. from McGill University in 1971 and a Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University in 1975. He retired in 2001 after a 25-year career in insurance and investment banking, during which he won numerous prizes for his papers in actuarial science, finance, and investments. In 2008, he received a Founder’s Award from the International Insurance Society for his pioneering work in asset-liability management.
Jim Tilley’s poems have been published in many literary journals and magazines, including The Southern Review, Sycamore Review, Tar River Poetry, Southern Poetry Review, Atlanta Review, Florida Review and New Delta Review. He has won Sycamore Review’s Wabash Prize for Poetry, the New England Poetry Club’s Firman Houghton Award, and Rhino’s Editors’ Choice Award. Four of his poems have been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, three have been included in the online anthology at enskyment.org, and two are forthcoming in college textbook anthologies edited by Michael Meyer. His first book of poems, “In Confidence,” will be released by Red Hen Press in January 2011.
