“Queening” is my attempt at melding Courtly stateliness to Queer dailiness.
An Introduction to “Queening” by Donald Revell
In “Queening,” Adam Strauss has made an American poem that will prove to be the living memory of American poetry itself. Sartre claimed as much for Mallarme, i.e. that Mallarme was the poet who followed the last poet. Everything is in “Queening,” but nothing is borrowed, nothing is imitated. No, rather everything is forwarded into a protracted, gleaming and, one might even say, sweating moment. As you read, you will find that no one loves our poetry half as much as does Adam Strauss. And heaven knows, poetry ought to return that love.
